Carnival season opens on Twelfth Night, January 6, and runs until the midnight before Ash Wednesday, with krewes such as Rex, Zulu, Endymion and Bacchus each staging their own parade. That calendar makes New Orleans one of the few cities where group shirts are planned around Fat Tuesday. The rest of the year the orders come from tourism, which the city leans on heavily, from the Port of New Orleans, Louisiana’s only deep-water container port, from Ochsner Health, a system of 47 hospitals, and from Tulane, which enrolled 14,027 students in fall 2022. Jazz Fest fills the Fair Grounds Race Course across April and May, and the French Quarter Festival, free to attend with more than 20 stages, comes in early April. Vendors, bands and volunteer groups at both want shirts that cope with heat, and July and August highs here average about 91°F. DTF carries krewe names, numbers and bold art on polyester and dark fabric. DTG handles detailed full-color artwork in small runs, such as a walking club or a neighborhood anniversary, and embroidery sews a logo onto hotel, hospital and restaurant uniforms. A contractor or hotel group ordering custom company apparel gets the same terms as a ten-person parade club, because DTG, DTF and embroidery have no minimums, and larger orders qualify for bulk pricing. The shirts are top quality, the print job was perfectly placed. They removed the solid black background for me and the design was better than I could have expected!
